On November 7, 2026, Mississauga’s Living Arts Centre will welcome Film Music Gala – From Poland to Canada, a symphonic celebration of cinema and of the musical links between Polish and Canadian communities. The evening, presented by conductor Dr. Andrzej Rozbicki and the Celebrity Symphony Orchestra, brings together an orchestra, choirs, guest vocalists and large-screen projections.

From Hollywood classics to Polish cinema

The announced programme crosses borders and generations. Audiences can expect music associated with films including James Bond, The Godfather, Gladiator, Titanic and Pirates of the Caribbean, alongside Polish favourites such as Polskie drogi, Janosik, Vabank, Noce i dnie and Ogniem i mieczem. Composers highlighted by the organizer include John Williams, Ennio Morricone, Hans Zimmer, Wojciech Kilar, Jan A.P. Kaczmarek, Krzesimir Dębski, Zbigniew Preisner and Krzysztof Komeda.

Announced guest performers are Krystian Ochman, Jacek Wójcicki, Milena Lange, Jakub Milewski and Canadian soprano Holly Chaplin. The concert also features combined choirs Levada–Orion and Lechowia. According to the organizer, nearly 100 artists will participate.

Andrzej Rozbicki: a lifetime connecting musical communities

Born in Lidzbark Warmiński, Poland, Andrzej Rozbicki trained at the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw and later continued studies in Maastricht in the Netherlands and at Michigan State University. He began conducting professionally in Poland in 1977 and came to Canada in 1985. He earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Kraków in 2007.

In Canada, Rozbicki combined performance with music education and community work. He founded Toronto’s Celebrity Symphony Orchestra in 1994 and led the Brampton Symphony Orchestra. For decades his projects have brought Polish compositions to Canadian audiences while inviting artists from different musical traditions to share a stage.

His contributions include directing Polish-Canadian choirs, mentoring young musicians and producing large-scale symphonic events at the Living Arts Centre. He is the author of Maestro z Toronto, a book recalling his artistic journey and the history of the orchestra. In 2025 he received Poland’s Gold Medal for Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis.

More than a concert

The November gala continues Rozbicki’s longstanding programme of cultural exchange. Movie music offers a shared language: a familiar screen melody can evoke memories of Poland, childhood, immigration or a memorable evening at the cinema. By placing Polish themes alongside international scores, the programme invites different generations and audiences to hear those connections anew.
