A year after Prime Minister Mark Carney travelled to Warsaw to strengthen ties between Canada and Poland, the partnership is producing tangible results — and Canada's Polish community is taking notice.
During his August 2025 visit, Carney and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced an enhanced strategic partnership spanning trade, defence, and energy security, including clean energy, critical minerals, aviation, cybersecurity, and advanced technologies. The two countries agreed to hold annual bilateral dialogues between senior officials, and Canada was named the Lead Nation for the 2026 International Defence Industry Exhibition in Kielce, Poland — one of Europe's largest defence and security trade shows.
The visit also brought concrete investment: L3Harris Technologies Canada announced a new production facility in Katowice to manufacture advanced WESCAM EO/IR systems, projected to generate more than $250 million in economic benefits for Canada and support over 1,200 Canadian jobs.
The Canadian Polish Congress welcomed the announcement at the time, applauding what it called a historic step in deepening the two countries' century-long relationship. "For over 100 years, Canada and Poland have worked together to defend our shared security," said Defence Minister David J. McGuinty, who accompanied Carney on the trip.
A year on, the follow-through is visible: Export Development Canada is opening a new representation office in Warsaw in 2026 to help Canadian companies access Poland's fast-growing market, and Poland and Canada have moved forward on a defence-industrial agreement covering Polish-made drone systems. For Polonia, it's a reminder that the relationship championed on both sides of the Atlantic is translating into real jobs, trade, and cooperation.
